Disk needs to be checked for consistency

I had the same problem on an acer notebook and discovered something was jumping in on boot and preventing the disk check from running as the disk was in use.

In Regedit navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
Go to Edit then new and add a new DWORD (32bit) VALUE and name it AutoChkTimeOut and leave the data column as 0.
Go to file then exit and reboot

This will stop the 10 second countdown on reboot and the disk check will start immediately.

Worked for me anyway

I get the same message and the computer just stops. I let it run all night to be sure.

It stops on a screen that says File Record segments 534759 is unreadable. (of a long list)

I had to shut it down with the on/off switch. I keep getting the same thing. When I reboot, the message says hit any key within 10 seconds to stop the check, but it does not work. I tried to start in safe mode and it went straight to the check. I don't know what to do since I seem to be in a loop here.
