Hopefully I am in the right Forum, if not let me know and I will try elsewhere.

I wouldn't use any other than CCleaner Disk tab to "Run Cleaner," followed by Registry tab to Analyze then Clean Up the shells it finds - save a backup when prompted.
Most other Registry cleaners are sales scams with no genius behind them, as compared to CCleaner which may be the most highly respected app in all of the tech world.

99.9999999999999% of them are bogus garbage that do more harm than good.
The only Exception, As Long As You Know What You Are Actually Doing is CCleaner.
Otherwise, avoid them all, they are not actually needed for any other reason than you are actually having registry issues.
There is no point to trying to clean the registry to make it faster,, that is a myth.
Skip 'em all. Unnecessary and potentially toxic/hazardous
How important is it clean out your registry?
After reading the advantages and disadvantages, I'm skeptical.

+1.
Extract from that Wikipedia article:
Nothing more to say, the bet is still on: Any thoughts on Registry cleaners? There is no reliable way for a third party program to know whether any particular key is invalid or redundant. Poorly designed registry cleaners may not know for sure whether a key is still being used by Windows or what detrimental effects removing it may have.

I sincerely hope this doesn't turn into a debate again, but simply put, those who say CCleaner is worthless don't have the experience to really speak on the topic. I won't discuss other apps because I don't use them, but I have given several real examples of how CCleaner's registry clean solved issues for me, like failed ATI driver installs, cleaning up after an app or driver removal that was preventing a reinstall, etc. There have been several issues that CCleaner has helped me out with. It's also free, and provides several other tools. It is far from useless.
It has never caused me a problem in years of usage on all of my systems. If you are worried, it provides a simple and easy backup method.
Acelogix Ace Utilities does the job for me. i got CCleaner on my other machine, and it didn't beat Ace Utilities as far as my experience is concern when it comes to "cleaning".
just my thoughts!
but i have nothing against the written articles re: 3rd party cleaners..
