Windows Experience Index - Hard Drive score totally incorrect

Hi, I have a SSD and a HDD. What happened today is that I changed the SATA ports my SSD and HDD were plugged into.

Basically I plugged my drives into the Marvel controller on my mobo by mistake as my manual did not say which port was which. I only realised the performance difference after reading the above article (the Intel P67 ports are faster on my mobo). So i open up my pc and switch the ports they are plugged into. (i changed from sata7_8 to sata 1_2, both 6gbps)

HD Tune Pro does register some performance increase from changing the SATA ports. However, the WEI index now says my Hard Disk score is 5.9. It was before on 7.7.

I suspect it's reading the HDD as my primary hard disk? because there's no way my SSD is broken. it doesn't feel funny and HD Tune Pro sees no errors and some performance increase.

Honestly, if the system is running fine, it isnt worth the effort it took to type in your entire post. WEI is not a benchmarking tool and shouldn't be treated as such. It is utterly and completely useless. I haven't cared about the my score the entire time Windows 7 has been out, but in Vista, I could occasionally get a different score just by refreshing the tool a few times. I'd completely ignore it.

HD Tune Pro is a better indication, and it is showing a difference, going by your post, so that's all you should worry about. I have a Gigabyte board nearly identical to yours, and considering the chipset bug, you should be using the first two ports...which you are now. They are unaffected.

There you have your own answer, mate. if you don't see any performance decrease and you know that your SSD actually IS your main drive, why would you rely on some "Random Numbers" from Microsoft?

NOTE: by random numbers is that i don't think that WEI reflects the real world tests. for example: you need to buy a SSD to increase your score above 5.9 on the Drives section. for me, it's just a merchandising trick. of course this is just my opinion and i respect every other opinions out there

Real world tests is what you should rely on cheers, mate. Enjoy your PC.

I did the cmd winsat disk -v thing. I didn't understand all of it, but I understood enough that a lot of the statistics were over 200+mbs per second and there was quite a few 7.9s about and all were 7+. And it showed data written on to my SSD via SSD Life.

So dunno really why the WEI would bug out.

It is probably reading your HDD as the primary. It isn't a problem, and can be ignored. WEI was ment to assign your computer a numerical score so you could pick up retail software and know right away if your computer met the requirements. It never caught on, so the WEI as a whole can be ignored. That why I half-jokingly said you put in more effort than it is worth. Calling the WEI score random or worthless is being kind.

I built a new Sandy bridge system a little while ago, and I could tell you any detail you wanted about the system, but I couldn't tell you my WEI score. I ran it once to make sure Aero was enabled, and that was it. It warrants no thought or worry.
