    3DMark06 Scores x32 & x64

Please not, these scores where with fresh installed Windows 7 and updated with everything available excluding language packs.

    Windows XP x64 13,000+

    Windows 7 x32 11,700

    Windows 7 x64 11,481

3Dmark06 ran with no problems on x32 but i had quite a few hickups running it on the x64. Nothing major but it was obvious W7 x64 didnt like it.

Also, nVidia Controll panel isnt too fond of W7 x32 or x64. Enabling SLI took a couple trys and black outs to enable.

I felt it was a little laggy running W7.

This has been my experience with just about every game in W7 thus far. They lag behind in speed compared to playing them in XP.

All Microsoft had to do was update XP with DirectX 11 and it would've made a killer gaming platform. But instead it seems like they are going to kill PC gaming in favor of their Xbox.

LOL, Please remember XP is about seven years old Windows 7 is still not even out yet. Hardware makers have had plenty of time to tweak and change their drivers around to get the best fps on XP, or do you all forget that back when XP came out it too was laggy on games at the time. (yes I am showing my age on this subject)

I think it all depends on the graphics card and drivers. I had similar results until recently.
    My scores
    XP 13219
    Vista SP2 12342
    W7 7100 13112

So my results are totally fine with me. Things are a toss up here also. Some things run better and some slower. But overall my experiance is way better than when Vista came out. Also the pros and cons between xp and 7, I prefer 7. My personal thoughts though.

You mean 3 years isn't enough time to tweak Vista and Windows 7? Because the performance is still poorer than XP. No amount of drivers is going to fix it now.

Sometimes I wonder what some of you guys are smoking...

I agree. I believe vista was a disaster and still is. I will admit they have made a ton of progress but still have a LONG way to go. Kind of reminds me of Windows ME, lol.

lol, yeah. As far as worst versions of Windows ever, Vista is a close second to Win ME in my book

Fortunately, Microsoft made a wise decision to take their heads out their butts before working on Windows 7.

I agree windows Vista is not a very good product as for windows 7 being an updated vista thats very hard to say Win7 has a ton of new API layers and I dont know where MS is going with the new Video rendering layer and with moving a lot more things into the gpu with the new DirectX 11 its hard to say.
So this adds a new question to my list of things to look into. With using 3DMark06 I know it can use DirectX 10 can it tell that there are new items in 11 that are confusing it and droping scores?

Remember W7 & Vista have additional services not found in XP by default. For one I disable the search service and a couple of the WMC ones, like the media network sharing.

I went back to my XP x64 image after several months of Win 7 only to make sure I'd be able to upgrade and couldn't bear it. But it will probably be dependent on your specific situation & environment. Some drivers & software will be up to spec, some may not.

Edit: I did a new clean install of XP x64 and let it activate & update - it sounded above like I restored an old working version of XP.
