How to minimize notebook start up time from standby

What is the best practice to achieve the quickest resume time for notebook? Notebook should be able to run normal Windows applications. Run time from batteries 3 hours plus standby time 24 hours. Applications Garmin and several other maps. Budget is limited to stay reasonable

1. Windows 7 32, 64 Pro or contrary is Starter version the best?
2. Which suits better standby or hibernation?

Obviously SSD is the must.

What else?

How short start times one can expect?

you could try soluto. it's a handy piece of software that tells you how long processes are taking and slowing down you startup. disable them or pause them for startup in soluto, and you laptop should be faster resuming from standby. I'd also recommend putting it to hibernate. surprisingly fast at resuming and doesn't eat the battery

32 bit version would be more beneficial if you have 2GB of RAM or less, never go for windows 7 starter edition (in my opinion) as it is far too restricting.

I have heard that there are people dedicated shortening of Windows start up time.
Any info about their achievements, best results and ets? Or even better, where to meet them?

when I used soluto, it told me every single task and how much time it added to boot time. You may find that you don't need some of those tasks, and can disable them (which should also speed up resuming from standby).
Soluto has a neat little thing that times how long it takes your system to be fully booted, and I managed to quite literally half my boot time which sped up resuming and general usage.

yes, soluto has a cool ui - but you can't really beat the startup tab of msconfig.

Thanks, I'm gathering time to check soluto.
But still it's interesting, what is the highmark in seconds and how it has been achieved.
Decreasing from 120 seconds to 60 doesn't help much in many situations.
But 5-10 seconds opens already new horizons for a laptop.
Has anyone achieved it?

I'm afraid I've never owned a computer fast enough to even imagine fast standby. I hear some macs and netbooks are instantly wake but that could just be myths...

jokes aside, i'm afraid i think it just comes down to the hardware in the end :/
