    Windows 7 Speed Problems.

Hi, I run Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

    Here are my system specifications.

    Q9550 Processor
    4GB RAM
    ATI RADEON HD 5750

There's something going on with the following applications:
    Windows Media Player
    Windows Photo Viewer
    Internet Explorer
    ATI Catalyst Control Center.

They are slow to open, slow to close. When trying to select or click buttons, it's highly laggy.

On the other hand, Google Chrome, Microsoft Office applications like Excel, Powerpoint and Word are fine. Games run smoothly and load fast too!

I've tried scanning and fixing with both Avira and Advanced System Care to no avail.

    Please help.

Are you trying to play video or open pictures with those applications or are they just opening slowly when you click on the icons?

I suppose there are many things to try and my first thought is that with the exception of Windows Photo Viewer the apps you list are not known for their speed, especially IE.

Try running CCleaner, Malwarebytes and through an elevated command prompt sfc /scannow.

I also believe what roban said there not the fastest opening and operating programs. For video try a proggie like vlc which is more light weight. Photo Viewer on the one hand should open ok but can take a while flipping through photo's depending on there size but that shouldn't be that much of a lag. IE is slow opening, try Firefox or Google Chrome. Also do as roban said stated and clean, scan, and test with sfc /scannow..

I'm trying to play video and open pictures. Clicking icons is the same ways too. They are laggy in response.

Those applications were fine until yesterday.

I'm adding AIM messenger and Nightly Internet Browser to the list that's showing the same effects.

I'm trying to cope with VLC and Picasa for video and photo respectively.

Thanks for the helpful listing, I'll try that.

Are all your programs installed on the same disk?
