RAID 5 running way slow

Hey Guys,

I was browsing on here and saw how helpful everyone is. I decided to throw my lot in too.

Here's the problem:

I just put together a Raid 5 with 3 new 1TB hard drives, creating a 2 TB volume (really like 1.8 or so). I'm using the asus P6T Deluxe V2 on board Raid controller. The hard drives are:

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive. 3 of them.

Everything was working like a charm. Fresh install, system was blazing. I was updating windows all day with whatever they recommended. Now it is running very slowly.

I know that it updated my raid driver. Could this be the problem? There is clearly something very wrong, with the write speed but I cannot tell what or how to fix it.

I've included the system specs in my profile, but please let me know if there is any info you guys need.

Any help is most appreciated :)

Many thanks,

Hi Richard, Welcome to the forum.
GO to Device Manager you should be able to roll back to the previous driver.
I hope this helps

Thanks for your help :)

I've since broke the RAID, reformed it as 2 seperate RAID 0s, and am reinstalling all the drivers carefully. I was getting disk performance scores in the 3.8-4.0 range and that was truly annoying... had to wait for menu to pop when right-clicking the desktop.

Please consider this thread closed, admin :)

Raid 5 Slow Transfer Speeds
Hi, I have read somewhere that Raid 5 is not supported in Windows 7. Is this true please? After my near loss of data today I rebuilt my Raid to 5 with three Seagate Barracuda hard drives each at 2 TB. All are 7200 RPM speed and I am copying back my data from a new 3 TB Seagate Hard drive...

PC Slow to shut off when shutting down (RAID 1)
I have no idea why this is happening, and I've dealt with it for too long now. Whenever I shutdown my pc (Windows 7 x64), the actual shutdown screen goes away in a reasonable amount of time, but my PC takes about another 8-10 minutes to shut off. Yes, that is 8-10 minutes to shut off. What is...

Well, I've searched now for several days and played with every setting I can think of, but still can't coax better than average performance out of a recent install of RAID 0 using an Silicon Image 3132 based PCI-e (x1) Sata2 card (should have bought the UD3LR!). I've convinced myself it's a driver...
