What is the best Free registry cleaner?

I am having trouble with my computer & I think the registery needs to be cleaned.

I used to use "Regitry Cleaner" from MS, but can't find it.

Where can I download a good Registry Cleaner that is free.

I tried some "Free" & when they ended they told me I had 330 errors but wanted $29.99 to correct them.

    Welcome
The best advice is that you should not use them and they are not needed with Seven.
If you insist the best would be Ccleaner, since it is benign.
The best way to restore the resgistry is with System Restore.
That free one was a gimmick to get you to buy. You may have errors but disregard what they told you.

    Hi Tullynally,

Richard is quite right when he states that registry cleaners are not needed or should be used with W7. However, CCleaner is one that is recommended by many people here for its comprehensivity and ease of use. Even so, you should take precautions and make a backup of the registry before making any changes to it. That way, if you do run into problems, you can restore the registry to its original state.

You also say that you are having trouble with your system, and that you believe it to be something to do with your registry. What issues are you having with it? They may, or may not, be something to do with the registry.

Most registry cleaners advertised in popups are sales scams (as you found) with no genius behind them which will mess up your Win7.

Use CCleaner Disk and Registry tabs folllowed by a good defragger like free Puran boot-time defrag, with Intelligent Optimizer enabled on the Additional Operations tab.

To monitor your logs and use other performance resources in Win7, try these troubleshooting steps

If you ever think your Registry needs to be cleaned, repaired, boosted, tuned-up, cured, tweaked, fixed, or optimized (it doesn't), read

    and draw your own conclusions.

In other words, injudicious use of "Registry cleaners" may indeed cause problems.

If you do not have knowledge of the registry, then you would probably be better off leaving it alone, and definitely not placing blind trust in a program to do the job for you.

Should you decide to use one recommended above make sure you have a current System Restore point created plus a full System Back Up just in case.....

I like ccleaner also. Used it extensively without issues.

    However;

My main use of it is cleaning up temp files and removing annoying programs from startup, plus the occasional removal of a program since it opens quicker than Control Panel.

+=1 None. You will not gain any benefit but will be taking a risk - for nothing.

I'm having troubles with mini-freezes with Micrsoft FSX. I had tried FSX: Steam Edition but couldn't make that run smoothly for me so I removed it following the route they advised. However, taking a peep into my Registry, I see that my first search there produced a "Steam" line for removal.
I hesitate to touch it st all and I do use CCleaner regularly. Why the ongoing freezes, I wonder. I always temporarily disable my Norton and its Firewall - my FSX Settings are but moderate, so why these mini-freezes?
Be delighted to have some helpful suggestions from you all.
    Thanks.

I've used Auslogics and Wise registry cleaners cautiously carefully for some time now. All they do is simply clean dead leaves off of my lawn [figuratively of course :) ]. What is Intelligent Optimiser? I would like to take a TX looksee at it, and save it in my Archives.
