Lesson learned
Hey peeps, I've finally sorted an issue I had with games randomly crashing after about an hour of playing, mainly on DiRT 3, after going through every possible avenue of fixing it, it was as simple as adequate cleaning of relevant fans within my graphics card.
yep, it was overheating, decided to install a handy little program called Furmark, which let's you monitor temps while running a graphically intense program (a furry donut....) yep, my temps were reaching an egg cooking temperature of 90c under load, so after cleaning out the intake and exhaust, it now peaks at 60c
So if you suspect that your computer is crashing randomly and there's no bluescreen, try this first > FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net and set it to stability test with temps on show...
