It is intended to be a back up machine in case of, say, a motherboard failure....or something.

I've never heard of such a thing.

Finally ditched my Pentium D for a Phenom II X6. I think this is pretty good considering I pulled off a new CPU, mobo, RAM, and case in $120.

    What's a typical score for 12GB DDR3 RAM?

The WEI score is taken from the winsat mem score. To the best of my knowledge, the amount of ram is not taken into consuderation if at least 4GB. The score is based on the frequency of the ram (speed). To run the winsat on the ram, open an elevated command prompt (click start, in the search box type cmd, right click the cmd that appears and select run as administrator) Type winsat mem and press enter. To run everything type winsat formal and press enter. That is my understanding of how WEI works.

I recently upgraded 8 to 12GB and mem score was still the same 7.5.

Okay, so when 4GB more ram comes in the mail, my score will be the same because it is 1333MHz, right?
