sfc scannow error "windows resource protection could not perform . . .

    Specs:
    Win7 home prem
    64 bit

Running sfc /scannow as administrator. scannow stops at 64% EVERY time.
I've run chkdsk. . no errors. Have not run in safe mode. Never had to before.
    First received:
err msg from "window command processor"
Then received err msg "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation." Received this 3 times in a row.

I have run scannow successfully in the past without issue. This is a first.

I welcome any ideas on a fix.

Hello eradicus and welcome to Seven Forums.

What prompted you to run System File Checker? Were you having specific problems?

See if this Microsoft forum thread helps.

If still having issues you might consider using System Restore to go back to a date/time sdprior to your original issues.

    System Restore

And if you'd rather not wait for assistance in figuring out the cbs.log info you could opt for a repair install.

I have been experiencing a lot of freeze ups lately and sluggish behavior of the computer. I run Norton IS 2010 and malwarybytes religiously and don't open up anything stupid or do generally stupid things net wise. I have a programming background and so I understand things a bit better than the average user.

My feeling is that this may be a google chrome thing although some dubious updates came out from microsoft that I installed on 6_29_11 which have played havoc with a few of my friends computers i.e. BSOD etc. I uninstalled them b4 running scannow so my issues came up after.

I don't know what's going on to be honest. Norton might even have something to do with it but bottom line, the scannow utility has always run without issue until now. ???

Have you checked Event Viewer to see if there are any specific problems around the time(s) you 've experienced those freeze ups and sluggish behavior?

What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?
