    That CONSTANT BLINKING problem.

Hi folks. I'm sure many of you will have come across this 'problem' before.

My hard drive light CONSTANTLY blinks, every second. It is VERY annoying. I have searched, searched and SEARCHED AGAIN for solutions (for years, also had it on old XP machines), and no matter what people say it could be in literally thouasands of threads/replies I've found over the years no one HAS CURED IT OR FOUND OUT WHAT IT IS. Some people call it the 'heartbeat'. I call it a c***.

HELP, this is now driving me slightly crazy!!!!! SOMEONE somewhere MUST KNOW!!!

Even when you are not actively doing anything, the hard drive will remain active, because of background programs and OS activity. As far as I know, there is no way to totally make the hard drive inactive, without disabling it, or shutting down the computer. I'm assuming that the activitity light is the one indicating activity on the hard drive where the OS resides.

If you feel that the amount of activity is abnormal, then check it with Process Monitor:

If that doesn't explain it, then start checking with security scanners for malware, trojans, etc.

Once per second sounds about right for Windows 7. I wouldn't get excited over it. Disconnect the light if it bothers you.
