96% Battery plugged in but not charging

    Acer laptop
    2 months old

I did the followings but did not fix it :

    Unplugged the machine
    Removed the battery
Plugged everything back in ( except the battery ) and loaded the machine
    Turned off the machine
    Put the battery back in.

This is the 2nd time. Fisrt time I fixed that by performing the above steps. Not this time.
Google search suggests faulty adaptor, as well as contacting Acer while still in warranty.

After googling, I came across this suggestion :
Device Manager > expand Battery > Right click at Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > uninstall > Action button > Scan for hardware changes

That did not solve the issue either.

Is there anything else I can do without calling Acer ?

Call Acer. You have a hardware problem.

Have you simply let it run lower than 25%, shut it down, and then reboot with the A/C adapter plugged in? A lot of newer laptops (released over the last few years, anyway, so not necessarily new anymore) come with some logic in the BIOS to not keep recharging a battery that hasn't been discharged in <n>, where <n> could be any number of different factors. For example, my HP laptop will not recharge the battery if I turn it on plugged in at over 85% charge 5 times - it will show "plugged in, not charging" until I run the battery down below 85% before plugging it in again (and as soon as I go below 85% and plug it in, it charges).

Consider that it might not be a problem at all, and this sort of behavior does lengthen the life of the battery too, if it is on purpose by the hardware.

You are " almost correct ".
3 hours ago, I unplugged the adapter and let the battery run down. Didn't pay attention to want %.
Then I plugged the adapter back on. It then started to charge..... to 99%. Then Not charging again.
    Go figure.

Interesting. Might be worth bugging Acer on the specifics of the BIOS and how it determines when and how much to charge .

    I fixed my problem

I have a acer 7741z windows 7 home premium 64 bit computer. I had a the same problem but my computer was stuck at "4% plugged in; not charging". As others have suggested I went into device manager and uninstalling the battery controller and scanned etc .. this was a successful function however it did not solve my problem. Others have also indicated that the charger is bad. Since we have quite a few of these computers in the office I went to a colleagues computer (whom is home sick today) and tried his charger, this did not solve the problem. So I switched the batteries and this WORKED. So now I have my old charger and a "new" battery. This solved my problem, so now my co-worker has the faulty battery that wont take a charge. But that's his problem now so hopefully he doesn't read this post trying to figure out the problem

    Cheers!
