    svchost.exe memory question

Is it usual for that process to take up 500-600K or memory? I don't recall seeing it take up that much space before. Just curiosity because if i run some program that requires lots of memory, it starts to lagg. Never had that happen before either.

This might help to solve the problem.
You can disable the automatic run at startup.

Speedgamer's suggestion is a good one. Also, it helps to know which svchost is consuming memory, as there are lots of them doing all kinds of things. It's also important to remember that an svchost process is a service that contains *multiple* other services, within a common process framework. Keeping that in mind, a few hundred K of memory usage isn't terribly out of the ordinary, especially if it's the very large netsvcs svchost container.

Well, i truly wouldn't question it but this is the first time its done it in the past 1 and a half years ive had this computer. And the svchost.exe that its using is Themes which changes the look of things when i end the process. Previously, i haven't had the lag or that great amount of usage by svchost with the same setting that i have now.

Did not think that the Themes or The effects used that much memory.

Um..yeah...just let it run cause it was going higher than the usual 600K...went up to 1,856,000K now. So tell me, might this be a worm? And if so..any good software to remove it?

It would be worth getting process explorer on the machine and taking a look at that svchost to see if there's any further information. I'm not sure there's anything to be alarmed at, at least not yet.

Well, a few of the trojans have been removed. Although the svchost still takes up memory. I would think it was normal except when it comes up, the internet pretty much stops working. Pages fail to load until i end that process so i suppose something is still up. I also got that process explorer and...what am i supposed to look at?

You can disable the startup services that are using it (tutorial), and download the free avira AV software.

Also download and run Malwarebytes. Allow it to update and run a full scan.
