    SMART Thresholds test problem

I own a Dell XPS 8300 that is brand new. Today I ran a PC Checkup, using Dell''s recommended settings. Everything passed, except for the SMART Thresholds test which read "Cannot read." Can someone please tell me what this means, why it happened, and what, if anything I can do about it? Thank you!

I think you need root OS admin for that raw test to run from within windows.
    I could be mistaken.
I don't think this is an indication that your disk is bad but rather a failure of the test to run properly.

Hi Donato and welcome to W7 Forums

SMART needs to be supported by, and enabled through, the BIOS. I've had a quick look through the manual, and there is no mention of SMART in it, so it is possible that your system doesn't support this feature.

Sorry, I did not receive your reply until I after I responded to Maguscreed's. It is odd that they would include it on the PC Checkup for the XPS 8300 or the result did not read "not applicable," to indicate that the XPS does not support SMART. I just don't want to worry that there is some problem with my hard drive on a brand new (three weeks old) PC.
