Sata Devices reporting as SCSI, performance issues?

    Sata Devices reporting as SCSI, performance issues?


    Good evening,

    Just installed Windows 7 RTM and my Sata HDD's and DVDRW are reporting as SCSI devices. I would get this problem in XP if I installed the mobo's raid drivers by accident. If I did then the devices would report as SCSI and the dvd burner would report as a cdrom and would not burn or read dvds

    Whereas in Windows 7 the burner is reporting as a DVDRW scsi CDrom and will play dvd's and burn them too.

    So at the moment there doesn't seem to be any problem however whilst navigating through the control panel I noticed the WEI. So I took a look and it's report my primary hard drive with a score of 5.9. The hard drive is a brand new Western Digital Caviar Black 500gb 32mb cache disk, is this score normal for such a drive?

    Also is there anything else to worry about with the devices reporting as SCSI or is okay to leave it like that

    System:

    Asus p5n-d nforce 750
    Intel Quad Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
    Asus ATI 4670 1gb
    4gb corseair
    Western Digital caivar black 500gb
    Western Digitial caviar green 1tb

    The only way to get a better score on your HDD would be to have either :

    1) A 10,000 RPM drive, or for maximum scores,
    2) A fast SSD (I have an Intel X-25M and get 7.7 as a score)

    Thanks for the response. So my hard drives reprotig as SCSI aren't having any performance issues then.

    Not sure why they are reporting as SCSI, I tried installing the latest drivers from nvidia and asus and still reports as scsi as when using the windows drivers.

    No problem. Not sure either but they arent slowing anything down. 5.9 is a normal result for 7200 RPM drives.

Several system information utilities I've run show the SATA devices as SCSI? Any reason? Here are two screen shots. One is from Speccy and the other is from AS SSD Benchmark.

Back in the IDE days...I believe the items and/or types of IDE devices on either IDE cable/channel would effect system performance. In other words if you have a fast HDD as a master and a CD player as the slave on the dame cable/IDE channel..system and/or drive performance Does the same issue...
I have an HP desktop computer running WIndows 7. The motherboard has an nVidia chipset. I also have 2 standard SATA hard drives and a SATA SSD drive attached. When I bring up Device Manager, all of the drives are listed as SCSI drives. Anyone know if there are any driver updates that can fix this?...
