advance tweaks for windows 7

Just to add my recommendation when looking to reduce the load on the OS by "redundant" services ....

Never disable a service, set it to manual instead

If you set any service to manual it will not be loaded by default and it will not take any resources, however. if something changes in the future and the service is required, (new hardware, or software), it will be started as needed.

Note

This method is not the most efficient for those services that are required every boot but at least they will work and prevent problems where you forget you've disabled them and something new fails to operate.

This is more important with win7 where the need to re-install the OS regularly, (and thus re-set the default service state), is less needed than with previous Windows Operating Systems

Actually, the OP said he was looking for improvements to speed and PERFORMANCE, which is what 'tweaks' are. Tweaks are not limited just to improvements in speed.

To me, personally, tweaking involves a certain amount of customization, so I included some of those links. There is a definite overlap between the two, so I don't think we have to mandate that the subjects be treated separately. In any event, I always feel that the more information we can provide to the members, the better.

You just contradicted yourself, to be honest. The OP asked about tweaks in the name of performance...which is what you state in your first sentence. In the computing enthusiast community, I would agree 100%...tweaks are about performance, which is why most people and sites would tell you Windows 7 doesn't need to be tweaked. Customization is not a tweak...it's making the OS look and act the way you want it to. Like in the auto enthusiast community. Tweaks would be under the hood for performance. Customizations are paints, wings, wheels, lights, etc that are for a personalized look.

The reason they are two different things is this. Windows 7 doesn't need to be tweaked. It runs efficient by itself, especially over time. It was designed to be much more customizeable, though, and offers the end user much more than previous OSes. Even going back to Windows 95, you needed to pay for another add-on (Plus) to get themes and apply themes. Now you can do that out of the box. You have much more control over window colors, transparency, etc. Customize to your hearts content, but as mentioned by others, there's no need to tweak.

I know you are showing Wikipedia links for definitions, but since this is a community setting, let's stick to the terms and definitions that have always been used within the communities. Those two terms are separate and unrelated. One was made obsolete, and one was highly encouraged and developed into the OS...finally.
