It seems that everyone is on about the Software,

You went on holiday, Vacation and or away from your place of stay,

Think about these options, something has come loose ie: memory,
something has not liked the fact you had a Vacation,
Your Hard Drive is failing (Is it making a Clicking noise or even come loose)
Try doing a system Restore from the day you left, if its not changed then its internal.

Always think outside the Box, well in your case Inside.

Please, I know you payed for Norton, but try to get a refund if possible on it. Norton is a resource hog, and not very good in my opinion. Do not install another anti-virus if you still intend on keeping Norton. Two anti-viruses installed at the same time do not enhance security, it only slows down the computer a lot. Stick to only one real-time antivirus. MBAM is MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
Is there any way just to disable it?
    Thanks!
Oh, and i hope that I don't have to clear my drive.

    Re-format? That's a bit too extreme don't you think?

Disable? Nah, whats the point? You won't have to clear your drive.

You can always go back to it, before the subscription ends. Never. Pay. For. Antivirus.

OK, I uninstalled Norton, but it is still very slow, and about HDTune, how do you do a speedtest?

Hey, I'm new to the forums, and wanted some help with fixing my very slow computer. It is an HP dv7-4080us Notebook with Intel i7 processor, running windows 7 64bit. for the past 2 years, it has been running very fast, but then I brought it on one of my vacations. After that, it ran very slow, and I have not been able to fix it. It runs fast in safe mode. I scanned it with Norton, and I'm currently scanning with Avira. No viruses. I also made it so that no processes or services that weren't needed for the system started on startup. I barely noticed any change in speed.
    Thanks for any future help!
    Nice lappy!

I'll go out on a limb...two statements stand out to me:
    1) It'a an HP
    2) Slowed AFTER using on vacation
OK, it's an HP - I have a Compaq (HP) and HP loads a LOT of crap. Did you ever access ANY of the HP "utilities" while on vacation? If YES, start there - check to see if HP services are running.

While on vacation, did you access any WiFi networks? If so, check if the WiFi installed "something" (especially if you accessed a hotel system).

    Regards,
    GEWB

Did you install MSE? You ran a MBAM scan right? Also, run a scan with Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta | Microsoft Connect. If none of this works... I can offer to help you through TeamViewer, if you like.
