The last few posts were not Norton issues and were solved as follows:
* for the incompatible crlscsi.sys driver that was trying unsuccessfully to load at boot-up/start-up, I used Autoruns to disable/delete them from running
* for the Event ID 10 WMi Error, I applied the Microsoft Fix it here:
Event ID 10 is logged in the Application log after you install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
Note that while neither of these event viewer errors were actually slowing down the computer at start-up, the original problem at the start of the thread WAS from an issue with NIS 2012 in conjunction with disabling Safe Search which led to NIS 2012 freezing and not closing properly. Once back to NIS 2011, the start-up was relatively normal again, leaving only the three event viewer errors.
