"Out of Memory" Error, all apps continually increase memory usage

I tend to agree here.

IMHO, the best thing is preventing an infection in the first place.
Sadly, once you are already infected to a certain point, the best option is to bite the bullet and thoroughly clean the HDs and re-install fresh.
Especially if a worm or virus is buried deep, such as a rootkit.

A lot of effort I know, but by the time its all said and done, its a a lot less headache and time.


Once other thing you may try is Malwarebytes & Run it from safemode.
Have you tried PowerEraser to see if it can located and kill the worms?

What I would do.
Wipe the drive, not reformat it, wipe it.
Up date you mother board bios.
IF you use a router and or modem reset it/them to specs. (infections can hide in there)
Unplug all usb goodies.
With a legal copy of Windows 7, install.
Install MSE, Malwarebytes Anti Malware and Super Anti Spyware and update them all.
Install legal programs as you see fit.
Lastly don't use that web site again and advise you friends.
Please note. Any flash drives, burnt CD or DVD from those infected computers can also be infected.

More or less something caused the pc to try and install a "fake" copy of windows and when their windows key did not work is when i realized it because i personally installed their windows 7 originally 2 months ago with their key and it worked. I personally downloaded the home version when it was on sale for being a college student. My friends bought the windows 7 family pack version about 2 months ago (only have installed it on 2 pcs so far).

Have you and your buddies considered a good paid for AV? Again, Norton is considered the best AV by most well known magazines and many members here. Something to consider... Norton Internet Security is available in a 3 user version for only $49.99 USD!

If you have no other options for AV, have you tried GParted yet to fully delete all infected partitions?

I did download and run power eraser, but halfway through it said it needed an internet connection and couldn't connect. Even though i was indeed connected to the internet. My friend actually had a paid version of Trend Micro anti virus which is one reason he was so pissed off was that it didn't find these virus's, where as after i installed MSE on his computer (had to do it through flash drives because he couldn't download it from the microsoft website since the virus prevented us from going to the site) the MSE did find some but not all.

After i put the flash drive back into my pc to put on the norton power eraser to give it to him, the flash drive actually tried to infect my pc again. Thankfully with all the malwarebytes, AV, and MSE it picked it up immediately and I didn't get infected again. I have now ran thorough scans on all of our externals we have used and found that it infected those as well. It turned all the folders into shortcuts and hid the original folders. Had to go through cmd to individually change the folder settings back. I have purged the virus from 2 out of 3 pc's so far. Took all night last night doing the second, and doing the third today. I did indeed have to completely wipe the drives and rewrite the MBR to do so though. I tried very hard to fix his pc instead of wiping it which is the real reason it took so long. That and i really wanted to detect what it was so that i had a grasp on what i was dealing with.

The main two virus's seems to be Vectral and the Dorkbot along with CeeInject. Not sure which one was first though. Thanks again for the help. Also I asked them about going in on Norton, but they really don't want to since both have copies of Trend Micro they can install.

Well if they all use one brand of anti virus and they all got infected, why would they want to keep using it. No one security program can do it all.

Norton has been voted best AV by the most prominent PC magazines for the last 3 to 4 years... its worth every penny. AV is no place to be cheap! Especially after the experience you and your friends just had.

I question why your friends would even consider using it after multiple infections got through it...Proof that Trend isnt a very good product, never has been!
