Will computer wake up from hybrid sleep to check for updates?

I leave my computer on 24/7 so that it can update itself with Windows update, to run AVG virus check and etc. Should I be putting the computer into hybrid sleep instead to save on power?
Will the scheduled programs wake up the computer and run properly. I read before that there were some issues with waking computer from sleep mode.
Dell Dimension 9200 running Win 7.

    Thanks

Anything listed as critical will wake the computer - this can be seen by looking for the "wake this computer" checkbox checked on a scheduled task. And yes, WU will wake the computer when it's scheduled to run, even if in a sleep state (including hybrid sleep).

Is it really worth it to set up for sleep mode or hybrid sleep mode. After reading some of the problems encountered on the surface it looks like it is safer to just leave the computer on all the time.

Sleep / hybrid sleep is fine, but as with any version of any OS, it depends on how good the drivers work. Assuming all of your drivers in your system are signed and are Windows 7 compatible, sleep should work just fine.
