    Constant 1.5-2g memory usage.

For starters, I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit. 6 ggs of ram, intel i3 3ghz, nvidia 8800 gt video card.

Okay, basically the short of it is, for whatever reason, my computers using a constant 1.5-2 gigs of memory.

Now, I know Windows itself uses a good deal...but up until, oh, 2-3 days ago, it never seemed to factor that into the mix. Starting about those 2-3 days ago, now my task manager shows a constant 25-30% memory usage. Even in safe mode, there's a constant 1.25g being used, and the things that show up under the resource monitor don't account for most of it.

Needless to say, considering this is a new development, it has me concerned, mostly cause I don't know why it's doing it.

I've already done all the various scans, be they virus, spyware, etc. Did them while running windows, did them in safe mode, even got a clean boot disk from a friend and scanned it via that. To no avail...

Needless to say, I can post more information if necessary.

Any chance you can upload a screen shot of task manager performance tab sort by memory?

Okay, will do. The slight dip in memory use on the chart was simply my closing a few unnecessary things, like my browser, messenger programs, and the like.

Heh okay, here's that too. Although all said an done, there are very few of the running processes that show up in that list. Though, tis possible it's always done this and I've never noticed...but I am usually paranoid about these things. But I've been googling through the list of things that show up, (and that I don't immediately recognize) and nothing really strikes me as out of the ordinary...so I find myself having second thoughts. =\

This all looks normal to me. Windows 7 is very good at managing the memory it has available and will keep old programs in memory ready to be reloaded unless the memory is needed for something else.

I agree, it all looks pretty normal to me. I have 8GB on my Sony Vaio and it always shows about 2-2.5GB in use. In task manager you could also click that Resource Monitor button for a bit more detail on how the memory is being allocated.

And you could also use a free utility called Process Monitor. Don't even have to install it if you click on the Run Process Monitor Now link at the bottom of the page. It will show real-time file system, registry and process/thread activity.

About the same here. Somewhat surprising considering my old winXP only used about 1gb when i wasn't playing anything.

I notice that all the 64bit programs take up a lot more RAM then their 32bit equivalents. That's probably why.

I agree, it looks normal to me. I have 8 gigs and am using 23% right now. I has always been about the same.
