PC has been slower since last format

Did you keep the drivers which were given by installer during install?

Were there any newer drivers offered by optional Windows Update?

Yes I kept them and no Windows Update didn't offer me any optional updates rather than the video card ones

If you didn't change any drivers given by the installer, then I'm confused by what you wrote here. Please clear up my confusion:

Do you still have only drivers given by the Win7 DVD and optional updates?

Have you clicked on the repeat errors you have in Event Viewer to google their text to find out what they pertain to, and how others have resolved them? You will find clues here to your performance problems.

Once you comb the logs and use the other System Resources like(Check for Problems, Check for Performance Issues and Generate a System Health Report as given in these troubleshooting steps, then if the cause of your performance problems doesn't become clear then I would install the chipset drivers from the Asus website to see if it helps. Keep an eye open for optional Windows Updates drivers as there are normally several.

If you have questions on performing any of these steps, ask back for further help. You want to be thorough and not miss any steps or fail to report back everything.

What I did was (after the recovery I did yesterday) install these drivers (chipset,gpu,keyboard and mouse) and then updated the HD 6800 driver from Windows Optional (although it was in Recommended and not in the optional updates tab)

IIs it odd that sometimes when I restart my PC the programs seem to load faster (and startup time on screen is reduced) than when I turn it off and turn it on again?

I have tried all of these steps thorough this week , still no solution , I'm downloading the chipset drivers ( ) at the moment so I'm going to report back how is everything after installation, although those are the same version as I have)

EDIT: Keeps happening, the latest drivers for my motherboard are from 16th June 2009 according to ASUS

If you changed out a bunch of the drivers given by the installer without testing performance first then it may be the cause of your performance problems.

This is not XP. Win7 is the authority on what drivers it wants. This is why I said in Reinstalling Windows 7 to only import drivers which are missing after optional Windows Updates delivers its newer drivers.

Is there any chance you were able to test performance at all before you changed out the drivers? When exactly did the bad performance start?

Well I hadn't had the chance to try them before changing all the drivers because I changed them before installing any new programs, the bad performance started as soon as I installed every program the boot became slow, I tried it before installing the programs but it was way faster for obvious reasons (I had no programs to start at startup at that time). Is there a way to unistall all the drivers again (without doing recovery again) and install just the ones from the installer (does this mean the CD?) and if it works okay or not?

Look at System Restore points to see if you still have a restore point from right after install - it would prob be the first batch of updates - before you changed drivers and started installing programs.

This is why it says in the steps I gave you to test performance after each program install - so you can isolate which one causes the problems.

If you can't Restore to start over, I'd clean reinstall and this time follow the steps which are based on helping with thousands of reinstalls here.

That restore point just disappeared O_O , I want to format as a last resort, anyways I have replied the personal message, let's see if we can fix it without having to format

With all the programs disabled at start up it was normal (like how it should work, but without any programs) Is there a way to turn everything back to normal now? and see which program is causing the problem? I've had Daemon Tools since I started using Vista and used it with Seven and I never had any problems

Why do you want all of these programs to start up with Windows? They become freeloaders on your RAM, CPU and Startup when they should wait to start up when you click on them.

It's always best for performance to run a Clean Boot.

If you must have these start up with Windows then add them back in msconfig>Startup, but realize you are going in the opposite direction from good performance.

There were a lot of probs with Daemon tools early on but we don't hear much about it any longer since it isn't considered a Win7 app at all.
