Windows 7: svchost.exe w/7000+ threads 30%+ processor usage.

svchost.exe w/7000+ threads 30%+ processor usage.

Very fascinating problem currently taking place on my computer. I have just done a complete factory reset, and just finished applying all updates to windows.
After having installed all the software i usually use everything seemed just fine, unfortunately things have now turned completely sour.

Due to some sound-stuttering issues i downloaded a program called LatencyMon, now i`m not saying it`s implicated, just that it was the last program, and the only program i`m completely unfamiliar with, to have been installed on this computer. The program had a hard time quitting, i was forced to force quit it, and did a reboot.

Upon finishing this reboot i logged on and got to spend 30/50 sec watching a black screen (a first for this computer post-logon) and saw a program window? in the bottom left corner of my screen. After boot the machine was slow and a look in Resource Monitor showed that svchost.exe (LocalServiceNetworkRestricted) was churning along with 7000+ threads and spending 30+% of my cpu. I tried to stall the service and this caused my sound to hang (background .ogg file in winamp).

I did another reboot, i did not get the same problem with svchost.exe, but i discovered that the firewall in f-secure had malfunctioned, prompting another reboot.
Whereafter the same problem as before manifested itself again. svchost.exe (LocalServiceNetworkRestricted) operating at the same level, this time i also noted the ridiculous Disk I/O which seemed to be running through my entire harddrive writing and reading from all files on the harddrive.

Not being knowledgeable about these matters it made me feel somewhat insecure....
So this post went into security. If there`s another explanation then feel free to have it moved.

[WRONG] My bad, turns out it was SuperFetch doing its magic. No worries.

dhcp client

So. I thought the problem had disappeared, but it turns out that the culprit is the "dhcp client" service, not superfetch. It spawns more threads than it seems permissible to poke a stick at. I forgot to save the Process Monitor output for svchost.exe, but i will the next time the problem rears its ugly head.
As of now i`m satisfied with just killing the entire process tree in Resource Monitor, but that is hardly a sophisticated or permanent solution.

Oh, anybody have a clue as to how to get this moved to Network & Sharing or Crashes & Debugging. It doesn`t seem to belong in this subforum.
