    Audio mobs the CPU

This is not a problem, just a curiosity.

I am running my webradio from back home all day. At times, a bubble comes up above the tasktray that there is high CPU usage of the audio. This is an i7 CPU.

The phenomenon lasts only a few seconds because when I go into the task manager, the audiodg.exe is already down to just a few percent and eventually it goes to less than 1%.

I really wonder what could make the audio spike like that. Any ideas??

Random stab in the dark.....could the audio feed simply be buffering?

I doubt it. If it were buffering, the audio would stutter. But that is not the case.

maybe its just a phantom bubble falsely reporting. if you have taks manager open at the time is there a visible spike?

windows occasionally tells me my gaming rig is running slow and not capable of running areo.. moments later im playing bf3 on ultra so i often hammer the ignore button

Process Explorer from MS will show you a history of usage, files open, etc. This might be a nice way of seeing the exact file responsible.

Yeah, the spike is real and it is the audio process. It is not really important, but I was just baffled. It happens about once every third day. If I did not have the CPU meter running, I would probably not notice it. The i7 can crunch a lot of processes.

But it happened on my old HP system too. At that time I thought it was an oddity of that system. But that Dell here is brand new.
