    PSU / Mobo Issues?

My pc has been pretty good since I built it 2 years ago. I have recently done a clean install and installed Pro Tools 10 again.

The problem is though, sometimes when starting up it restarts whilst loading Windows files suggesting a hard ware issue, then it restarts into automatic repair and does a disk check finding no major problems:

The type of the file system is NTFS.

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You
may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended
    that you continue.
Windows will now check the disk.

Then it works fine, but it is still intermittent. Could it be a driver issue? All RAM appears to be working fine.

Second issue, it shutdowns (powers off) whilst doing a restart and then automatically turns on! I have no idea how it does this and was really worried this could be a mobo problem or PSU problem.

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

    Regards

I had the check disk thing happen to a new build this week. So far its only done it one time. The power off could be causing it, if it powers off while trying to load Windows. I would look at the powering off as the potential problem rather than the hard drive.

What power supply do you have? Unfortunately the only way to test a power supply is to replace it with a known good supply. But, you may want to reseat all the power cables - unplug both the 24 pin and either 4 or 8 pin power cables then plug them back in (with the PC powered off).

My primary DAW is Sonar X1D Producer 64 bit, but I also have Pro Tools MP9.

Thanks fireberd. Seeing as there has been lighting strikes in our area recently which could of caused it i'm going to try replacing PSU. Apparently from reading a different post reseating new memory can solve it - maybe something with the connection plates.

I'm just wondering whether its worth whilst im at it replacing my primary WD Caviar blue hard drive with a black - apparently they're far more reliable and at the top end of the consumer range for reliability and performance.

The drive may be a problem, but I would look at the power supply first. With lightning strikes and/or AC mains power problems caused by storms anything is possible, it may even turn out to be a motherboard problem.

I wouldn't suspect the memory, since it is powering off/back on by itself. Memory can cause other problems but it would be far fetched to consider memory as causing power problems.
