Windows 7 takes 20 to 30 seconds after Please Wait screen

    Hello all,

Can someone help me figure out a problem my Windows 7 has while loading user credentials thumbnail? Lately it has been taking good 20 to 30 seconds right after the Please Wait screen to load all user credentials thumbnails! And even if after clicking a thumbnail, it takes about 5+ seconds to display password box. I have tried googling this issue but so far no luck.

Any suggestion or advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Khurram

this problem may be cos you have a lot of startup programs turned on, also unnesecary services etc...

press start and type msconig and press enter.
select startup tab and click disable all button or manulay uncheck items.
now select services tab and check hide all microsoft services checkbox then click disable all button.
select boot tab and type number 3 into Timeout box and press OK

press start and type disk cleanup and enter.
when disk cleanup tool analyzes your drive check all the checkboxes and
clean up you C: partion (where windows is installed) using this tool.

goto C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp (change Admin with your username)
empty whole temp folder by selecting all files and folder and delete them.

finaly empty your recycle bin and restart computer.
see what changes you've achived and post the results.

also you may full scan your comp with Antivirs and defrag HD using defragmenter(start>defrag>enter)

after all these steps your may update windows and restart again.

    cheers.

    Thank you for your reply.

My friend I did try what you all suggested but the problem is that i can't disable all startup programs in msconfig because my laptop may not function properly. The thing is that my laptop is HP Probook4530s and it comes loaded with several HP software for instance HP Power Assistant and more, like bluetooth software.. so I can't just disable them blindly.

I did do diskfragment before even posting this thread here and I also did diskcleanup. I also deleted temp folder files and recycle bin files. But still no luck. There is something else wrong here which I just can't figure out. Any other advice you may have for me, please share.

    Thanks.

You may safely disable all Startup items except your Anti Virus/Security software. The HP startup items are mostly bloat for which Windows has the equivalent for any way. HP power asst, Blue Tooth, etc can still be started from your All Programs menu anytime you really need them. Just because it's out of the startup doesn't mean it's disabled in any way.

Thank you for your reply Britton, but it didn't work at all. I disabled all HP software only which were running and no other because I didn't know really if I could. And I didn't notice a change at all. And these software were there when I got this laptop and it used to perform really good but now I think since I have had so many Windows updates installed, which might have done something that slowed it down.

And now when I provide admin password to run something as an admin, even the password interface takes too long to submit after clicking on Yes. These two issues seem to be linked with each other.

    Any other advice?

    Thanks

If you haven't yet, try running security scans with the 3 programs I have links for in my sig, full ones after updating definitions.

    Hi Britton,

I don't see any signature of yours containing links. Can you provide to me links by replying to this message here?

    Thanks

Now I see your links Britton for some odd reason they weren't appearing before. I will try them out to see if that helps.

    Thanks.

I was having a similar problem, but it was my hard drive crapping out on me. Toshiba laptops come with a 3d visualizer of your drive spinning. Mine looked like it was coming off a three day bender from a Tijuana bachelor party. Wobbly as all hell.

Would literally take a minute or more to load the user screen and once in sometimes as much as 5 mins before I could even open a program!
