    Logon problems

I'm not sure, but when my computer is not connected to the network the logon is slower.
When you undock your computer is possible to keep the wireless connection working?

My wireless connection is working. Actually I almost was of the mindset that that or the LAN connection was causing my issue so I even tried disabling both to see if that solved it, but I'm still having the issue. It's weird, some days it boots fine, others take longer. It just sits on the page with the Windows 7 wallpaper. Sometimes when I press ctrl alt del, my logon screen reapears and I retype my password and it logs me in, but I never receive a message to press ctrl alt del.

What really made difference for me was replacing the “no wallpaper” (solid color) for some picture.
Sometimes the logon process takes more time because something is accessing the hard disk, but I am not sure if this could be the AV, or the MS search or the MS update and so on.
I think my system has some hw issues (DELL Vostro 1500), because I’ve got some BSODs even replacing some of the drivers for newest ones.
Anyway, have you tried to update your drivers manually, looking for updates on manufacturers’ sites?

    there are two issues here

One is the wallpaper, but those who are having issues when joined to a Windows domain are experiencing a group policy issue.

Edit your local group policy, and modify the Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - System - Group Policy - Startup policy processing wait time. The default is 30 seconds, which means your computer is sitting for 30 seconds waiting for the domain before logging you in. Change it to 1.

I don't think changing the Local Group Policy is the issue. That's just 30 seconds and my laptop is taking way longer than that to logon. I'm like thinking it's a driver as well because I do notice it trying to access the hard drive or no hard drive activity at some instances.

    Login taking several minutes

My wife's Asus notebook is taking several minutes to login from welcome screen. Last time this happened I had to reboot and it's looking that way now as well.

Already have a .jpg for desktop background so that didn't seem to fix.

This is a brand new machine running Win 7 Home Premium edition.

Am not that familiar with this OS and its inner workings so please, in giving suggestions, describe suggestions as clearly as possible.

    Many thanks!

Slow Login due to Desktop Background

I had about a 30 second (revolutions of the round former hourglass) delay after login with the default blue desktop background. Changing it to anything else with a jpg image reduced this to about 3 seconds. All the library desktops are rather gaudy IMHO and I just wanted blank blue. So I took a small jpeg image and inserted it into a large blank blue image using a graphics editor and used this for the desktop background. Works fine.

I suspect that to save memory the blank screens are generated by algorithm initially and that perhaps there is a subtle error in there.

    Good luck, GrzMky

    Background

    Hello
I have the same problem, slow login around 1minute, logging in to samba domain.

Witch background are you talking about?
    is it
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background
    OEMBackground (C:\Windows\System32\oobe\something)

    or witch background to replace?

    Thanks.

    Desktop Background

For some reason, a solid color desktop background seems to cause a login delay of about 30 seconds. My thanks to TheDosBox for first noting this. This is different then any network connection delay. Desktop background can be set thru Control Panel - Appearances or something like that. There are by default a number of solid as well as artsy patterns available. Of course you can easily make your own, save it, and then set it as your desktop background. I would think that any graphics editor could make a blank i.e. solid jpg image file of any color that would work. Good luck.
