SSD and defrag
Is there any reason to ever defrag a SSD?
Is there any reason to ever defrag a SSD?
No because it doesn't have moving parts like a hdd does. Only reason you need to defrag a hdd is because it makes it easier for the pin that is reading the rotating disk. So basically so you don't wear out your hdd as much because the parts would be moving a lot less looking for data. On a SSD you don't need to defrag since it's all memory chips that work by sending data through the chips and not needing moving parts thus making it a lot faster and making it unnecessary to defrag. Defraging will actually shorten the life span of your ssd since a ssd life cycle is based on the amounts of writes. So it is highly recommend not to defrag a ssd ever, hopefully this answers your question.
Thanks, thats what i figured but i just wanted to be sure i wasn't missing something that wasn't obvious.
