New PC Build reboots while running WEI

    Hi Everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster.

Just built a new PC, and having a pretty major issue with it.

When I run the WEI the PC reboots just after it finishes the Tuning Windows Media decoding test, I see the name of the next test change but do not have time to actually read it. Once logged back in, the only issue mentioned in the Event Viewer is a critical kernel power error and an unexpected shutdown error. I have tried the following without success:
Pulled all but one stick of ram
Tried a different video card (one that does not need as much power)
    Installed a new heatsink/fan
only have the vid card, one stick of ram, 1 HDD, and DVDRW plugged in

    Specs are the following:
    Asus P8P67 LE
    Intel i5 2500K 3.3GHz
    16GB Corsair Vengeance Ram
    2TB Western Digital Drive
    Asus nVidia GTX 550 Ti
    Antec TruPower 750W

Also this issue occurs when streaming music from another PC...usually in the middle of the first song (so about 2-3mins)

    Thanks for listening...

EDIT: The test it crashes on is the Testing Windows Media Encoding Performance, as soon as the title comes up it reboots

EDIT2: Looks like the last file WEI tries to access before rebooting is winsat.prx

How did you acquire windows enterprise? Usually enterprise is sold to businesses or places like schools.

I've been educated to the fact that this is not always true.

In any case, this problem would probably get a better response if it was in the Crashes and Debugging forum along with the dumps. As it is, you've given no info except your PC lost power. To start with, update the video drivers to the current version. Many of these Kernel Power errors are video card time-outs due to driver faults.

Was just wondering because it seems odd and I have some suspicions if possibly being a counterfeit version since enterprise is made to handle and maintain severs with many users that run through a large domain such as a school or business to login and use the domain to connect to the internet and a normal user would have no use for that. (if it indeed is legit then i apologize for my accusations but you must understand that I like to make sure and don't want to help a pirate, not trying to offend just stating my concern)

Anyways back on topic to the OP,have you updated to all recent updates from windows update? Microsoft mentions that there is a hotfix for winsat test failing in windows 7. Anyways if you haven't then update and make sure you have the latest service pack 1 installed along with all the other recommend updates listed if you haven't already

@M1GU31 it is a fully licensed VLK...no worries
I have installed all updates that were available...was the winsat patch and optional one or "important"? I checked the link, but I do not get an error or crash message on screen (as mentioned in the hotfix), the PC just completely reboots...

@carwiz all video drivers are updated to the most current version. Should I repost this in the crashes and debugging forum then?

On a side note, right now the PC isn't even posting...yet another issue

I am leaning towards a bad mobo at this point...

Is your BIOS up-to-date? Also, are you overclocking? I had crashes before in WEI under both these circumstances .

Any chance you could swap out the PSU for a known good one?

Not really...don't have a PSU handy that can support the hardware...via calculator, I would need at least a 500W...although I may be able to swap the vid card to make the power draw less, therefore confirming whether this is a mobo problem or not...

    I'll report back after work...

Still havent been able to grab another PSU, but did try the following, without success:
    1. New Hard Drive, fresh re-install
    2. Other Ram
    3. nVidia 8500GT

Tried these one at a time and then all at once

Disabled automatic restart on system failure in the hopes of seeing a blue screen, no such luck.
Renamed the DataStore folder in WinSat, as well as running all the media files there to see if they were the problem.

Ran Prime95, which ran through 4 iterations, but rebooted during the 5th.
Plugged the keyboard and mouse into the front USB ports to be sure I wasn't grounding the board with the I/O panel.

I know reaching for straws...but I'm almost at the end of my rope...

All parts are under warranty, should I RMA the board first to see if that will fix the issue?
