Kill the HP welcome/poppup screen. It annoys me.

When I boot my computer, (a HP) , screen pops up, (picture of a hand and HP.)
    I don't want that.
It annoys me. It is not necessary.

    I want to kill it.

I don't want to hear how difficult it is, to remove.
    Merely, I want it not.

mmm, someone must know how to get rid of it.

    Try this:

    Step 1:
As soon as you turn the computer on, hit the F1 key to enter the system BIOS

    Step 2:
On the menu, select the BOOT option by moving the right arrow on the keyboard.

    Step 3:
Making sure BOOT-TIME DIAGNOSTIC is highlighted, hit the ENTER key on the keyboard

    Step 4:
Select ENABLE to disable the HP Splash screen

    hi..
I tried your instructions, but it wouldn't grab. So I tried repeatedly pressing F1 as soon as I turned my computer on, and after a few tries, I got a window that said ..
    Windows Boot Manager
    Windows 7
to specify an advanced option for this choice press F8
    Tools:
    Windows memory diognostic

    I pressed TAB (for menu)

But I couldn't get to where you directed me.

..um, so what I am saying, is that..yes..carefully following your instructions, I couldn't get the menu that you suggested.
So, I tried variants (as one does) but to no avail.

So I am still a bit stuck here.
Sorry about that Chief. Do you want to give it another go?

    aaghh

Looking around I see it may be the F10 key to access Bios. Try tapping F10 while it boots. Also found a reg setting that is supposed to do it.

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\DESKTOP

On the right hand panel look for an entry which reads "WALLPAPER"
Double click on this entry which brings up the dialog box.
Type in (None) including the parenthesis.

    Also:

BIOS Setup Utility Information and Menu Options - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Hewlett-Packard (HP) - Pavilion, TouchSmart, Vectra, OmniBook, Tablet
Press the F1, F10, or F11 key after restarting the computer.
HP Tablet PCs may use F10 or F12.
Other HP computers may allow access to BIOS using the F2 or Esc keys.

That should give you some options

    A guy,

I'm going to have to give it a miss. I did however do all these things above. I also went into the registry and couldn't find what I was looking for. I opened the link and it started to get a bit scary. In the past, I would have gone full throttle, but as it stands now, I am tired of constantly having to rebuild my computer because of doing things (that) I plain don't understand. So, I am choosing (at this stage) the option of having a 1 second annoyance..(HP Splash Screen) .. verses ..a wrecked machine.
    Thanks Heaps anyway.

You are seeing the primary reason many people do a clean install on OEM systems, especially HP. It pains me to say this as a former employee, but HP cripples their PCs with all the junk they preinstall. Once a clean install is finished, performance and responsiveness is night and day compared to the out-of-box experience.

    Hello DeaconFrost,

I like the way you talk.

Yes, I have been told , soo many times on this Forum to do just that. Obstinate I am.
But your words ring clear like a bell.
And , I am going to do it !

Bummer, because, there are so many tweaks I have made to my computer, I can't remember all the things (that) I will have to do again.
eg. Dom storage adjustment, anti interference type things, etc.
    ..and etc. and etc.

So, could you tell me, how do I do a Clean Install. (or basically, where to start.)

    Thank you too much.

He's talking about the bios screen. I know this because I have an HP Desktop also, so I have the same blue hand also.
