It's as easy as typing Backup in Start Search box, click on Create a System Image, load it in 20 minutes to external HD.

Ahhh, but to the masses, it's as hard as knowing such things as a backup exist. Having an external hard drive. Learning how to create the backup. Remembering to backup. I still have to remember to not be surprised that people have never heard of CCleaner, Revo, Avast, etc. We're the geeks, like it or not

You may not believe this, but some years ago a friend came to work in a right state.
He was having problems with his computer and had spent all day clicking Help in the start folder and was most upset because no-one from Microsoft had contacted him to find out what help he wanted!!
I realise we've all got to start somewhere, but people's sheer lack of knowledge where their computer is concerned is breathtaking in its magnitude.
The way I look at it is they are the slow swimmers. When the shark comes, he will fill himself up on them. A Guy
This is a very interesting debate. From this discussion it appears to me that the best way to go about is to teach the newbies about the benefits of backing up and imaging rather than putting the fear of God in them about using Registry Cleaners. Sometimes mistakes would be made in using Registry Cleaners and coming to grief thereby but that would be a part of the learning process.
I believe touting best practices is always prudent. More newbies will be interested in using registry cleaners then doing backups. So it is always a good idea to make sure they know the possible consequences. I think getting people to create backups regularly is much more difficult. A Guy
Many newbies remain newbies for ever. I have many, many friends in that category. They know nothing about Registry and Registry Cleaners and also nothing about imaging even after using the computers for years.
Such is life.
This is why you may detect a certain vehemence in tone toward Registry Cleaners, because they scare unknowing users with banner ads about supposed registry errors which need fixing to get them to buy their crapware. It's sheer con-artistry which requires an equally strong pushback from those who are in a position to see what they do.
We also take personally that which messes with the best OS ever since many of us here have been with it since before its release and take great pride in helping others get the most out of it.
I've used a few registry cleaners in Win7.64 over the last couple of years, e.g. jv16, CCleaner, Eusing. No problems at all, but I do look through the list of problems found and yes it has all been redundant junk. I also keep at least 3 monthly images in rotation which is more important by far, as discussed.
I've never noticed any speedups though after a reg cleanup. Defragging helps a bit, as does an occasional run of TweakPrefetch for faster bootup when I notice it slowing up a little.
