just realised that the power management options have disappeared from my control panel.

I ran command prompt as admin: powercfg -requests and got

    DISPLAY:
    None.
    SYSTEM:
    None:
    AWAYMODE:
    None.

so not sure how to reset this?

also when I click on the power icon and then "More power options" nothing happens

Did you make any system changes, apply updates, or install new programs just before the problem started?
Do you have a Restore Point and/or System Backup Image from before the problem started?

Seeing "None" for "powercfg -requests" is not a problem.
It just means you don't have any requests from other devices, such as another PC on your network.

Are you saying you don't have a "Power Options" icon in Control Panel?
I've never seen the Power Options Icon missing, so that would be an issue.
Or, is Power Options in Control Panel and it just doesn't work?

    Try a System File Check:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If that doesn't fix it, try a Clean Startup:
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

You could also try a Repair Install:
    Repair Install

    Hope this helps.

she types in "power" in the control panel search box and gets Power Options. When I do that I get Advanced Power Options (which does nothing) and Windows Mobility Center (which works). Is this normal? If so how fo I get to Power Options on a laptop?
