I think you failed to read the whole thread.

There are cases where a Ramdrive comes in very handy and can do things the OS can't do.

A ram drive was very useful back in the '98 era when ppl with a lot of ram could redirect files into a user created ram drive...
But today Superfetch technology is work similar to a ram drive loading parts of programs into memory...
So if you have Vista/7 you have no need of a ram drive, and if you are using XP you shoud consider using eboostr:Boost your Windows PC performance » eBoostr.com
The application (usefulness) of a RAM drive is not limited to the functionality replaced by SuperFetch. Not even close.

I have NEVER used a RAM drive to speed up a program, rather, I use them to speed up a process. I have always used a RAM drive to eliminate disk I/O from a write intensive procedure. I do a lot of data normalization - the re-order of a file record layout when transforming a data set from one database format or OS to another.

I have seen processes reduce time on task from hours to a few minutes in some cases.

When I upgrade my current platform to the next gen with 24 GB RAM, I will process my video files on a RAM drive.

Not yet. Haven't tried it yet. Back burner.

    Dual boot.

I do not earn my living using an unproven, unreleased OS without full blown tech support.

Bringing the thread up to date

The good guys over at Tom's Hardware recently took a look at the question of how much memory is needed and how it should be used. Definitely worth a read.

Memory Upgrade: Is It Time To Add More RAM? : Introduction

In the article there is mention of a free ramdisk program from Gavotte.

Gavotte RAM Disk 1.04 HotFile FileServe & Rapidshare Downloads Freshwap.Net.
