    Startup repair stuck on checking problems screen


    Hi, I am having lot of problem in booting my windows. I use windows 7 and laptop model is dell Inspiron. The problem started yesterday when I tried to start my laptop it did not boot and showed a boot manager screen with message "Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected
    to your computer.

    This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing.

    Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

    After this I tried to repair the system using a windows 7 installation cd. When it came on System recovery option screen it did not showed operating system in the option window but I clicked next and it came on the chose the recovery tool screen, I clicked system restore but it showed a message to first select an operating system which was not showing in the previous screen so I clicked startup repair option. Now the system is stuck on " startup repair is checking your system for problems" screen. Many hours have passed by and nothing has happened it is just showing a bar moving in searching for problem bar and doing no progress. Please help me urgently.

    Is the Hard Drive seen in BIOS setup when you reboot into it? If not then it has likely failed.

    If HD is seen in BIOS setup then run the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan. You can google the HD serial from BIOS to find make, or use Seatools which works on most.

    If HD passes that test, run Disk Check from Win7 installer or System Repair Disk Command Line.

    If both tests pass then work through these other steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

    Thank you for your reply. I don't know how to check hard disk in bios please guide. In boot options there was an option of memory diagnosis and it was working fine with test results pass but I forced cancel it before it completed. If you suggest I can re run it. Also please help me how to save data of hard drive on memory stick in current condition as I am worried I will lose data If hard disk fails

    Hi, I rerun the diagnosis that was showing when I opened boot options by pressing F12 and it is now showing this message

    Error code 0146
    MSG: error code 2000-0146
    MSG: hard drive 0 self test log contrails previous errors

    Please advise further
