    hi

First off fire resmon and then under overview tab.... keep the cpu and memory tags opened..

Then sort the CPU section by CPU and Memory by Working set.....

this will give you an idea of what exactly is consuming more memory and cpu

let us know... or put the screenshot here

    Good trouble shooting so far.

    Did CHDSK complete?

Find the HDD brand and run the manufacturers test.
Sounds like the HDD is going out.

In addition to Dave's suggestions, can you try run this to see what it reports on the health status of the HDD:

CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World

You might want to consider a fresh install without the need to go and clean up unwanted bloatware & services:

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
