computer turning itself on during night

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has any solutions to this other than a complete shutdown.

I place my computer in either stand by or hibernate and for some reason in the early ours of the morning it will turn itself on and sit on the login screen.

I think it must be some kind of back system operation which is sheduled but I have no idea what or where to find it.

    Any ideas?

type task into your search box at the bottom of the start-menu to bring up the task scheduler - press enter to run it.

this will show you a list of scheduled tasks - open each folder in the left-hand pane, and you will be free to disable or reschedule any tasks you see.

    hope this helps!

After the system has woken from sleep open a Command prompt and enter the following command ...

    powercfg -lastwake

this will display the cause of the last wake event - you can use this information to disable whatever is causing the issue

I had this same issue. Goto the device manager and right click | properties for your mouse, keyboard, and network card and under power management uncheck allow this device to wake the computer. It will most likely be one of those three things waking it up.

I had the same problem that only started recently. I found out after going through the Task Scheduler that it was Media Center Update. You can find it in the left pane under Task Scheduler Library>Microsoft>Windows>Media Center>mcupdate_scheduled. Click on the Conditions tab and uncheck the option for "wake the computer to run this task". You'll have to click on Properties in the right pane first to make changes. Hope this helps.

Go to start, Type Task Scheduler. Then just go to the TS, to see what was scheduled and when.
