I'd start by going through this tutorial for creating a system repair disc. Make sure all of the steps were followed.

    System Repair Disc - Create

If you have a box of discs did you try using a different disc? Can you try a different brand and perhaps a different format (if a +R disc failed try a -R.)

You could also have damaged or corrupt system files. Try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are noted run the can 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Read last line FIRST.

I know this thread is over a year old .. but I have exactly the same problem. W7 Pro. The create disk tutorial says:

    1. Open the Start Menu, then type recdisc.exe in the search box and press Enter.
    and I instantly get:

Microsoft Windows Repair Disc as stopped working
    Description:
    Stopped working

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: recdisc.exe
    Application Version: 6.1.7601.17514

If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline:
    C:\windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt
    Code:
    C:\Users\owner>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
Done a lot of GOOGLING on this .. some say it is a bug, some say it has to do with OEM 'modifications', and some offer to sell a W7 'Recovery Disc' of their own. That will be the day.

Basically, I want to be able to restore IMAGE files of my C: Drive I have made. Each time, W offered me the option to create the disc but I always put it off ... until now. I don't really know if it ever worked.

    Help is appreciated in advance.

    Edit:
Found the problem with a further Google search. The installation of BOX SYNC causes this behavior. Uninstall it, and the problem is solved.

Then you`d have to find another W7 pc to create the disc on.

Or if you don`t already have a Windows 7 install dvd, download the iso and burn it to a dvd, which can also be used to restore the pc from an image.

Maybe you did not notice my EDIT. Uninstalling Box Sync allowed me to create the disc with no errors. I created the disc, and then reinstalled Box Sync. Problem solved. Thank you though for your input.
