System lagging, RAM at 100% usage, svchost.exe

    Hi,

I am having an issue which happens at random times. My computers RAM/Physical Memory usage slowly climbs up to around 90-100% and the system starts lagging. This happens while the computer is idling and also when playing game/browsing internet.

I uploaded a few screenshots of the task manager tabs. A program called svchost.exe is using basically all the RAM. When i right click and click 'go to service' it says it is Audioendpointbuilder.

Usually when this happens i just restart the pc and hope it doesn't do it again. I have tried repairing the OS (Win7 HP 64bit), updating the pc, restoring back to a previous point and nothing seems to work. I have seen a lot of these threads on the Internet but none of them are solved.

Any help would be appreciated. If you need any more info i can post more when my PC does it again. Which shouldn't be too long.

    I have 8GB RAM BTW

Umm your assumption is wrong, you say svchost.exe is using all your RAM, but clearly it is only using 250 MBs. While it appears you have 8 GBs of RAM, 250 MBs of 8192 MBs is not using all the RAM. What is probably going on is some application you have has a memory leak...which one is hard to tell from the screenshots.

    Try RAMMap, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../ff700229.aspx

Correct me if i am wrong logicearth. But if RAMMap cannot identify what is causing the leak under svchost.exe. Wouldnt it be advised to check if the actual files are not infected? I know this hasn't been the case in majority of the times but surely is it not a possibility not worth overlooking?

I never said their was a leak under svchost. RAMMap is used to identify WHERE the memory is going. And sure we can do a dozen different tests and stuff, but lets start slow and ask the OP to do one thing at a time, okay. Less confusion that way.

Why do you have seven instances of Chrome running?

...because chrome opens a processor space for each tab....?

... Thankyou for explaining that to me...

The ellipses let me know you think I'm a retard for not knowing it already.

RAMMap didn't tell me where the excess ram was going/leaking but the problem was Google chrome. Someone posted in a Microsoft article that Google chrome has been doing this with their latest 21.0.1180.89 version. I emailed Google support and they said they are aware of the issue and are working on fixing it in their next update. They recommended uninstalling/re-installing.
