Yes, agree completely, stressing the hardware components is the right troubleshooting steps for this Stop code.

Your recommendations are good, the next steps to take.
I recommend you install the nVidia driver from the Lenovo support site that marsmimar linked above.

Download the 'Nvidia Video Driver Windows for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit,64-bit) - IdeaPad Y480, Y580' driver, Version: 22.214.171.1246 (physx: 9.12.0613), date: 24 Oct 2012.
Strange date as it is next week but, it should be the most recent driver for your laptop.
From what you have explained previously, I think this will solve your crashes.
If the crashes continue, you need to start doing some hardware and system stress tests to find what is causing the instability.
First check your CPU core temps.
Use Real Temp , to check the CPU temps when at idle, under load and/or testing.
Let us know the minimum and maximum temps you get.
Laptops with i7 CPUs and physical graphics cards are known to run hot. This can cause several different issues.
Start with the two tests that marsmimar suggested.
