If you are in a neighborhood where a lot of people close by are using wifi, it helps to use a program like Xirrus Wifi gadget to see what channel your close neighbors are using for their wifi and change the channel in your router so there is less interference.

That's a good idea. I'll try it. Thank you.

How's the weather? I was there in Charleston for hurricane Hugo, saw The Allman Bros when most of the city had no power, what a trip...

Close David, but I live in Charlotte, NC. But you are right. Charleston is beautiful and the Allman bros. are the best.

You were right about everyone in my area being on the same channel of the router. The installer sets it up and most people don't even know there are channels. I changed the channel to one that no one is on and have given it a day. But for some reason, I can't stay connected to the internet. I checked to see if it could be any of the power settings but no. I'm beginning to think that it has to do with the hardware on the computer. It's still under warranty but with my last laptop, I was on the phone with the "help" for 20 hours, sent it to be fixed, and it was still broken. I don't have the best of luck.

    Kate,

Since the other laptop works fine and it doesn't have the cleaner software and Norton, try uninstalling the cleaner software and see if your connection is stable.

Thank you so much, Honey, you are a sweetheart for responding. But I put on the Norton 360 and the cleaner on my laptop about 6 months after this problem started. I put them on about two weeks ago and I really don't think that that is the problem.

But I wish that I have your knowledge of computers.
