Disabling the indexing service seems to KILL the search feature. I don't mind if searches take longer with indexing turned off, but when I disable indexing, search will not.
I tried clearing all the boxes in the indexing option, but indexing was still being done on my machine, and I don't know why.

    Cbleman,

When you disable the Windows Search service to disable the index, you can still do a search in Windows Explorer just not in Libraries. :)

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Where does the indexing service save database so I can check how big it is?

Brink: Thanks for the answer. I had a file tucked away on my hard drive that search didn't locate for me after I turned off indexing. I didn't try turning it back on and try again. I did however know what directory it was in, and scrolled down the directory to find it. Perhaps I typo'd the thing when I searched. When I get a chance I'll restore the indexing and try again. Now I owe you another response.
Is indexing supposed to continue with all the Index boxes unchecked?

You're welcome Cbleman. The index will continue to run and update only the included locations. However, I suspect that the only true way to stop the index from ever running is to disable the Windows Search service, even if you have no included locations.

My own preference is to relocate indexing off c: drive rather than disable it.
