Changing the search function -- ??

You know that little search thingy - you hit the start orb, then the little search box you get. Is their a specific search function(like a process that microsoft does? And if their is one, is their ALOT of memory space used by it...
Because i use: Search Everything - its really good, and takes like.. nothing to use it. And is their anyway to use the search function in windows and make it use the Search Everything program? Sounds complicated - i kno :)

Here is Search Everything(Its clean and all, scanned with VIPRE):Everything Search Engine

    Cya and Thanks

So there is no way to use Search Everything as a alternative in the native search on the start-orb?

I rarely use the search function but when I do it works perfectly. I like apps as much as the next guy but only when it's necessary. Using a 3rd party app just for the sake of using it doesn't make sense to me any more. Maybe coz I'm older now, I don't know.

the search bar in start menu is controlled by the windows search service. You can add/remove locations to index by typing "index" in the search bar. You should see a list of locations already. Press the modify button and you will be able to add or remove further locations. Generally though its better to let windows do its thing.

Thats the thing with Windows Search, it is very light on resources, and when it does require resources it does so in such a way not to impact performance of your machine. It runs in the background as a low priority service, any resource it is using is easily reclaimed the instant an application requires it.

As far as I'm concerend there is zero need for a third-party searching application. They are superfluous and rather useless now, esp. concerning the lack of integration.

Being able to replace the Win7 default search with an Everything Search would be great. I agree with the original poster
