How to TRIM a SSD in Windows 7

    I know TRIM is enabled:

    C:\Windows\system32>fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify
    DisableDeleteNotify = 0

but how do I tell the SSD to do the retrim like I can in Windows 8 with the

    defrag c: /o

command? DO I need another program?

    Hi,

To turn TRIM OFF, from an elevated command prompt type:
    Code:
    fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 1
To turn TRIM ON, from an elevated command prompt type:
    Code:
    fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0

Windows 7 and the firmware of the SSD will run TRIM when it is needed.

There is no manual function to run TRIM on the Kingston SSD.

Intel and Samsung have their own Toolbox software that will run manual TRIM but it is for use on their own specific brand of SSD's.

As Golden posted make sure TRIM is ON and that Disk Defragmenter is OFF in W7.

    Yes, you need another program,
    It is called Windows 8

Optimize Drives - Defrag HDD and TRIM SSD in Windows 8

Perhaps the supplier of your SSD could advise you if the Windows 8 defrag is a benefit,
and also possibly advise you of any third party Windows 7 utility that might provide the same benefit.

Did anyone actually read my post? I know all this, including the Windows 8 part as I mentioned in my post.

So there is no way to force Win 7 to retrim as there is in Win 8? I guess that's all I really wanted to know.

    Hi,

I think its just a case of turning it off, and then turning it back on again. Hence, the command line parameter suggestion.

Ah, okay, sorry. Didn't meant to come across as obnoxious.

I'll try it and see what happens. Thanks

Edit: Nothing happened to indicate a retrim is in progress. Ah well, was just a thought. I guess I'll boot Win 8 every once in a while to run defrag /o :)
