so i have this issue.. i don't know if its supposed to be like this but my computer has 3 gb of ram in it but my windows 7 pro that i got from my school every thing shows up as a 64 bit os... so why? any ideas what i could do?

Just with doing a quick look at google this is a laptop you are using, and the last one gig might be shared for your video card, the only way to be sure is to boot into the system BIOS and see if that is how its setup with shared video memory.
i think another thread solved my issue. they were saying that the 3gb usable means what is left after windows allocates what it needs i have all the aero stuff running. i thought about the video card but when i looked into purchasing this laptop it said it was a separate graphics card. i have recently updated bios from the asus website. it was not speific but said it added win 7 support.
here is where i bought it from the only thing that is a major change is that i reformatted to win 7 pro
The thing is that you're running windows x64 and it doesn't need to allocate any ram for devices. Unless your video card shares system memory then its understandable but even then 1GB seems excessive. I would still poke around in the bios for the memory remap/memory hole option but keep in mind that it might not even have it.

Welcome to Seven Forums,
Your computer has 4GB RAM. Other processes use some of the RAM.
Check your Task Manager to see what is using it.
Right click your taskbar, click Start Task Manager, click the Precesses tab.
Here you can see what your memory is being used for.
Click the Performance tab, this is another view of what your RAM is doing for you.
The 3GB usable means 1GB is currently being used by your computer to run processes, you have 3GB usable or available for doing anything else you might want to.
This is normal, everything is good.

This has been clarified in this thread, you are correct the "under msconfig > boot > Advanced options > Max Memory" will fix this.
