HP Pavillion, performence lower than vista

    Hi,

a few days ago, I formatted my HP pavillion dv6870ej laptop (core 2 duo 2.8, 3GB, SATA 320GB drive, Nvidia 8400M)

it came with vista and performance was really good.

I installed win 7 rc (I need it to be a legit copy, and the 1-year evaluation offer wins my attention)

I updated all drivers and ran a radersync..

I was expecting a slimmer, faster OS.

but Win 7, while acceptable still feels a little behind vista, most notable is the application launch time, office 2007 word or excel takes about twice the time to launch on win7 than on vista...

GUI also feels a little bit slow, while still responsive it does not have the screaming fast feeling I had with vista..

my WEI scores are 5.1 - 5.8 in all categories, except for display , aero graphics is 2.2 (!!!), and gaming graphics is 5.1

could any of you point me to what could be wrong ? what can't I see the performance boost and why is it slower than vista ?

    Hi,

thanks. I already viewed that, but did not make office 2007 excel open in 2-3 seconds like it was on vista, this time it takes up to 5-7 seconds... way too long...

Check your drivers carefully...your aero score is the tipoff...Windows 7 will be clearly faster on this rig than Vista ever was.

Win 7 will also increase speed with continued use as it tunes itself.

    I also believe in defrag.

I did, radersync only reported newer versions of drivers for my audio driver and some 3rd party software..

I defragged my drive last night and gained a little performer, but still, no idea why it feels sluggish..

I also used the latest drives from NVIDIA site, saying it is an OEM reference driver and I should get the real one from HP...but HP haven't released it yet...

    Moshem,

Could you fill out your system specs as much as possible. It may be able to help determine what may be at issue here.

I just got a notice from windows to update my video driver, I did and now my graphics score is 3.3 vs 5.1 for the 3D graphics...

anyway, I tried to see if launch time for apps has imporved.

I just timed over 4 seconds from the moment I clicked on the IE (explorer) icon on the task bar and until it got opened, Vista would have opened IE in 1 - 1.5 seconds..

    this is IE 8

    what is your timing ?

    Moshem,

Try the latest 186.81 drivers for your 8M directly from NIVIDIA below instead. They are usually more up to date here instead.
