Should I expect any hiccups during win7 install using my new SSD Crucial M4?
No mate very nice set up there and the SSD and an absolute ton of experience and info in here for you to follow.

Mind you I slightly prefer the Samsungs over the Crucial but thats me - my Crucial does well but just doesn't make the grade compared to the Samsung. But horses for courses and budgets of course.

Am going to upgrade my Sammy 830 120GB to the 840 Pro 256GB after my trip.

Make it a fresh install and disconnect all other drives during the install.
    Clean Install Windows 7

And this if you want to only use OS and programs on the SSD.

User Folders - Change Default Location
That plus in bios make sure you are in AHCI mode.
So to be clear I should follow this order.
Step 1. Unhook all hard drives I have.
Step 2. Go Into bios and enable AHCI and set new SSD as primary.
Step 3. Use my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 disk to install onto the SSD.
_Here is where I am a bit confused, do I leave it AHCI enabled after the install of the OS and will I be able to plug in all my normal sata drives after as long as the SSD is set to primary. Will this AHCI setting effect my other hard drives which are just used for data storage...music, movies, documents etc etc.

512GB SSD's have been less than $1/GB for quite awhile now. The question is, do you truly NEED 512GB? Are you going to be using it in a laptop?

no, the specs and the performance index i posted is my desktop. granted, 256GB is probably enough for my absolutely essential games and apps, its nice to have headroom. i remember being on my old PC, only having 320GB of space and constantly deleting and moving stuff to my external for fear of running out of space
