Still disappointed with this as the RAM is belting 2133
Changes to RAM only changes the RAM score. Mine is running at only a non-overclocked 1600MHz and is also 7.9. 7.9 is the most you can get in Win 7 for everything except CPU (unless you Photoshop the WEI image); that's only 7.8. Your GPU and, to a lesser degree, your processor are what are holding you back right now.
That's the correct way to look at it. The WEI score is most useful to check for performance degradation and get a clue where the problem might lie. As long as the machine does what you want it to do, then then the WEI score doesn't matter as long as it doesn't go down over time. Otherwise, the WEI is just for bragging purposes.
My notebook has something like a 5.9, as I recall (and, at my age, don't bet on my recollection), mostly because of the light duty GPU, the single HDD (recently upgraded to an SSHD; I haven't bothered to check the WEI since then), and the little i3 CPU in it, and I'm happy with its performance. Even with the new SSHD, I doubt the WEI score went up much and don't really care.
Hmm my main laptop runs an i5 430 and 8GB and is really really quick now I have the 8 upgrade on board and I just use it like 7 to all intents and purposes. Whether the 8 helps I don't know but I do know it powers up in the blink of an eye and shuts down even quicker.
