    John, if you look to the right it says its the sidebar (or gadgets). You want to keep that checked if you use gadgets.

    There are a few others like Skydrive, StikyNotes and MSE which may also be listed as the MS OS, but no critical System services appear in the Startup list.

    Thanks for all the responses,especially from another silly old fart like me.I'm also in Australia but formerly (over 50 yrs) from Somerset.
    As advised I have re ticked AV and OS and am now working through the tutorials and advice. Thank you all again from the land down under. James.

    Sorry jamtin mate I was not correct in thinking the OS was the actual OS if you open it sideways it shows just th sidebar so just untick it again mate. But I am still leaving my Kaspersky ticked come whatever LOL!!

    Oh arrived 1978 from Sussex, and just trying to find somewhere to stay as I am going to visit my folks in Wiltshire in April - hopefully:)

    Gooday again. Somewhere there is advice to update the BIOS/MOBO. How does one do that?
