Get stuck at windows startup disk check !

When i open my laptop , I will have to wait the "windows is starting" logo for a long time then it get disk check automatically , it will get stuck at a point. ( Read the details for more information)Any solution?

details:My laptop is dell Inspiron 1564 , 4 years old
My computer is working fine until one day I get a new ram and installed . And the computer is still working fine . Then one day after that , I decided to format the hardisk and reinstall windows because of the computer is getting lots slower and having a lot of hidden trash file after 4 years of using it . After backing up all the files to another computer . I started to reinstall windows and all the driver , it work fine for fews days . Then , one day ,it get stuck on the "windows is starting " for a long time , althought logo is glowing ,but I have to wait for a long time then it will automatically disk check and it get stuck at the same position every time . I have to forced shutdown it. if I cancel the disk check within the 10 second , I will able to use windows. But the windows somehow work so slow ( opening a browser need to wait for a long time ; playing game with some lag that I never experience before this happen etc ) . I thought it was some windows file corrupted during the installation , i end up reformating harddisk and reinstalling windows one more time , but the problem is still there.I guess it was hardisk problem , then I downloaded hd tune to check and I get 3 bad sectors ) . After that , I used spinrite and run the level 4 option on my hardisk for more than 30+hours . Guess what , my computer is able to go in windows normally without stucking at the disk check . However , this only work for two days . The problem is coming back ! , when I run chkdsk D: /r , the computer will stuck at a point ,the screen went blurry and automatic restart the computer .Although I am able to get in windows right now by skipping the disk check but I think the problem will get more serious , and hopefully there is solution . I think the major problem is the hardisk , but it can be the ram , driver etc.

Any solution will appreciated ! Please help me .( sorry if bad English , it is not my primary language ) .:)

Hi Johncy,

Since you are experiencing issues even after 'Windows Re-installation', it points at a 'possible 'Hardware failure'. I recommend you to run 'Onboard hardware diagnostics' to check 'hardware functionality' (Especially the 'Hard Drive')

To run the diagnostics, please follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the notebook > Power it back on > At Dell Splash screen, repeatedly tap 'F12 key' > Use arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight 'Diagnostics' > Tap 'Enter'
- Alternatively, you may hold down the <function key> and power on the system (then release the key) > This will initiate the diagnostics automatically
- Capture the error(s), if any and share results

Hi Johncy,

The 'error code' 2000-0146 may occur either due to 'software corruption' or due to a 'bad hard drive'. Basic diagnostics (Pre-Boot System Assessment) does not test the 'hard drive' if this error is indicated. I recommend you to run the DST-Short / Long test for more accurate diagnosis. DST-Short (or DST-Long) from '32bit Dell Diagnostics' may help us to determine if the previous error has been corrected.

You may also run the 'hardware diagnostics' again and continue testing even after you reach the 2000-0146 error message. You may get prompted with the following options:
- Select 'Test System'
- Select 'Custom Test'
- Drill down to the hard drive in question, select 'SMART Short Self Test'
- Click 'Run Tests'

Since Windows re-installation hasn't worked for you, the 'advanced diagnostics' are likely to point at a 'hard drive' failure; will require 'drive replacement' in that case. If the system is still in warranty, you may be entitled for free 'part replacement'. Error 0F00:065D . I just want to thank you so much for being so helpful :).Without you, I have no idea how to deal with this . And some few questions before I buy a new hard disk.

1. Besides hard disk failure , is there any other problem that causing this error 0F00:065D to appear?

2. Beside changing new drive , can It be repaired by software or rearranging the partition to prevent using the error part of the hard disk?

3. Why hard disk failure happen? Is it because I installed new ram or reformatting the disk and reinstalling windows causing this to happen?

4. The laptop has no more warranty after 4 years , and if I want to change hard disk , what do you recommend ? Let dell change it or buy one internal hard disk and install it by my self ?

5. If I buy one hard disk , do I need specific hard disk to fit in the laptop or any 2.5 inch SATA can fit in?

According to 'Dell Diagnostics', 'Error 0F00:065D' confirms 'Hard Drive' failure and requires a replacement.

You may try some repair options. However, it is observed if this is a volatile state and even after repairs, the drive may not last for long. Would recommend you to backup personal data immediately.

Hard Drive constantly moves for reading/writing functions of data. 'Hard-disk failure' may be a head crash, where the internal read-and-write head of the device, usually just hovering above the surface, touches a platter, or scratches the magnetic data-storage surface.

'Hard Drive' in this unit is a 'customer replaceable unit' is easily accessible from the laptop base:
